Abraham Lincoln, in his 1863 Gettysburg Address, said that a government “of the people by the people for the people, shall not perish from the earth” (emphasis added).
At 4tP.org (“for the people”), we believe in the people of United States of America over political party and over politicians’ individual goals, desires, and prejudices. The United States government should truly be OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE, and FOR THE PEOPLE. We fear that the current state of our government and the political parties that populate our government do not reflect this important value. We also fear that our citizens’ blind reliance on unfounded information, lack of rational discourse, and intolerance for diversity of opinion has created and exacerbated this problem.
4tP.org was founded out of frustration and many questions. In a communication from Thomas Jefferson to Richard Price, January 8, 1789, Jefferson wrote, "[w]henever the people are well informed, they can be trusted with their own government; that whenever things get so far wrong as to attract their notice, they may be relied on to set them to rights." We at 4tP.org have noticed that our democracy is in danger, and we are doing our part to remind our fellow citizens about why we are and must continue to be a beacon of democracy for all who would follow us and, more importantly, to all who would oppose us.
One of the most important tenets of American democracy is free speech; however, today, anyone with a computer and an Internet connection can create their own version of history, of the present, and of the future. Despite this, there IS a truth of what has passed and what is happening right now. It is anyone’s guess as to what the future may bring. We hope that you will not only enjoy our products but reflect on their meaning, act on their meaning, and remember that our country was built on a healthy, informed debate, not a hateful, ignorant one.
We believe Thomas Paine was right when he wrote: “To argue with a man who has renounced the use and authority of reason, and whose philosophy consists in holding humanity in contempt, is like administering medicine to the dead.”
In keeping with our belief that truth and rational discourse are essential components of a healthy democracy, a portion of the proceeds from our sales will be used for political science and criminal justice higher education.
